The next version of Wear OS will probably be released during 2024 and the Google and Samsung developer teams would already be working on it.
Therefore, the collaboration between the Mountain View giant and the Korean one should continue regarding the platform designed for wearable devices and, according to what we learned, Wear OS 5 should be based on Android 14.
What we know at the moment about Wear OS 5
After a few years characterized by few updates and new features, the turning point came in 2021 for Wear OS: version 3, based on Android 11, represented the beginning of greater interest on the part of Google, which then in 2022 also launched the first generation Google Pixel Watch (with Wear OS 3.5).
Wear OS 4 arrived last year, with the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 series and Google Pixel Watch 2, a release based on Android 13 and characterized by the introduction of new features.
In essence, the platform has been on a path of constant improvement for some years now and, normally, there is a certain curiosity about what could be the new features of Wear OS 5.
According to the latest rumors, Samsung's team of developers would be working to support a build of Wear OS based on Android 14 on the Samsung Galaxy Watch7, which could thus have the honor of officially debuting the new version of Google's platform (in waiting for it to arrive after a few months also on Google Pixel Watch 3 and previous models).
Unfortunately, at the moment there is no information on the new features that could be implemented and to find out more you may need to be patient until the update is available.
What seems to be certain is that Google is oriented towards offering an operating system upgrade on an annual basis also for smartwatches.
